The lower aesthetics.
Works by Josephine Flynn from Glamourie, PSL (Project Space Leeds), 14 January - 31 March 2012.
I like how Josephine Flynn's work insolently asserts itself as art, not as a found object would just by being in a gallery, but because it doggedly, determinedly attests to being made. Sure, the making often seems deliberately desultory - a plastic bag coloured in with the same colour felt tip pen, crumpled paper uncompromisingly labelled, a biroed yucca plant on a leaf of shorthand notebook - but then “the lower aesthetics” are Flynn’s self-declared artistic interests. There’s a great interview by Ryan Gander with her here.
